In the 14+ years that I have been a part of caring for pregnant women and assisting them throughout the pregnancy and birth process, one thing has become abundantly clear. Becoming a mother, whether it be the first time or the fifth, is a pivotal time in every woman’s life. Go ahead and see what happens if you ask any woman to tell you about her birth, trust me you will get an ear full! The stories that you hear can be stories of scary, unpleasing, or even depressing experiences or they can be stories of blissful, calm, empowering, life enriching ones! Which one sounds more appealing to you? That’s a pretty easy question to answer.

Birth does not need to be what most media portrays it to be. It does not have to be a fear filled, stressful, and painful experience. How do I know this you ask? I have seen it time and time again! Birth is Normal, Birth is Natural, Birth is Beautiful!

Birth can be unpredictable, you may not be able to control everything that happens, but you can be in control of your birth experience. I encourage you to do your research. Search out a care provider that will be supportive of you and your preferences, a provider who helps you feel empowered! Search out a birth place; whether it be at home, in a birth center, or in a hospital. Choose to birth in the space where you feel supported and safe. Search out a childbirth education class. There are numerous ones available, find one that suits you best (of course I am biased, and think you should take my HypnoBirthing course). Consider hiring a doula, they are powerful birth companions, and proven to improve birth outcomes. Don’t forget it is your body, your baby, and your birth!

  1. I speak from experience, Ashley is THE BEST! She delivered both of my girls. While each birthing experience was different, neither was scary. I felt empowered and peaceful with Ashley being there. Even as I went through me second pregnancy and new issues arose, her knowledgeable and comforting ways helped me through. If she is a part of your birth in any way, you will be blessed!
